I started my first free book giveaway this month for Prophecy's Queen, the prequel to The Triadine Saga. The idea here is to give away the prequel, so that people will discover my book and my writing and then go on to read the series and become Readers and fans.

I requested promotion on more than 19 different advertising sites, and so far have been accepted by 8 of them.

After three days, I've given away approximately 2300 books, mostly on Amazon, with a few on iTunes, Google Play, Nook and Kobo - and of course Smashwords, which does not seem to be tied to the ads as there were 120 before the ads started running, 12 so far after. I don't seem to get any actual sales from Smashwords, only free downloads when they are available. Says something, right there I guess.

Here's my current ranking on Amazon, which is fun to see.

#100 Free in Kindle Store
#3 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Epic
#5 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Sword & Sorcery

Time will tell if this strategy drives sales to the other books in the series, but my goal is to give away 30,000 books in the next 30 days.

The biggest player in the free book ad world, BookBub, rejected my application. They are buried with books and limit how many can be sent out each day.  I will apply again later, in the hopes that they will accept it. It's a bit expensive, but many self-published authors say it's worth it.

I'm hoping to get the Amazon statistics above to read #1 Free, #1 in Epic and #1 in Sword & Sorcery - though I won't hold my breath trying to get there.

I'm still thrilled at the response to Prophecy's Queen, and thank all of you for your continued support!
